October 25, 2009 Smoky Mountain High School
Brevard beat Smoky Mountain 20 - 0 in a continuous rain on a sloppy field. The field conditions made it difficult for both offenses to generate much offense. Brevard was able to gain 139 yards for the game while holding the Mustangs to 21 yards and one first down. Brevard's average starting position for the game was the Smoky Mountain 48 yard line and they were able to take advantge of the field position through out the game. Both teams exchanged turnovers and bad punt snaps early in the game as the players adjusted to the sloppy field. Following a Smoky Mountain fumble on their own 22 yard line, Brevard was able to connect on a 22 yard pass play on the first play of the drive to take the lead 6 - 0.
Smoky Mountain continued to be generous on the next drive as Brevard intercepted a Drew Londo pass and returned it 23 yards to the Smoky Mountain 27 yard line. Brevard was able to move the ball to the Mustang's 8 yard line but the drive was stopped when Rusty Mau intercepted a Brevard pass in the end zone with 20 seconds left to play in the second quarter. Smoky Mountain went three and out on their next drive and following the punt Brevard had the ball at the Smoky Mountain 45 yard line. One 45 yard pass play later and Brevard had extended their lead to 12 - 0 with 10:18 left in the first half. Both teams combined for about 20 offensive yards in the remaining time in the first half. One of Brevard's drives was stopped when Kameron Buchanan intercepted a Brevard pass. The second half saw the offenses combine for 76 yards with 54 of those yards coming on the only scoring drive of the second half for Brevard.
